Planned Program Service was a syndicated radio transcription service offered by Lang-Worth Feature Programs, Inc., of New York. Established during the 1930s, the service supplied radio stations with prerecorded musical selections, including orchestral, popular, classical, and novelty performances.
Many recordings featured individually banded selections with spoken introductions, allowing stations to present complete musical programs or incorporate individual selections into their daily schedules.
These recordings offer a fascinating glimpse into the prerecorded music libraries that helped fill the airwaves during radio's golden age.
Bernhard Levitow (1890–1950) was an American violinist, conductor, and music director whose Salon Orchestra was featured in Lang-Worth's transcription library. His orchestra specialized in light classical and salon music, providing radio stations with orchestral selections suitable for a variety of musical programs.
